Uddevalla Skogar

The project´s purpose is to see if we can develop a good heating product adapted to the ecological cycle with a minimal impact on the environment. At that same time we want to combine social responsibility with financial sustainability.

Uddevalla Skogar takes care of fuel wood left as a result of felling.  Previously, the fuel wood was transported to stations out of the municipality while we bought fuel for our stations from other regions.  A coordination of this meant reduced transportation and pollution through driving the fuel wood to our local and nearby stations.  Sometimes, we get a delivery straight from it is the lumberjack on his tractor. That is how local it can be.

We have built and invested in terminals in order to handle the increased amount of incoming wood and to be able to chip it to an appropriate size.  At our plant Hovhultsverket the chips are burned during so called campaigns where we only use wood from the project Uddevalla Skogar.  The ashes are returned to the forests within the municipality where the felling occurred.  Through burning the wood fuel in batches we make sure that the ashes are from the forests of Uddevalla.  The ecological cycle is complete and we have taken a step towards a sustainable society.

2010-2011 is a trial period where we examine the outcome of the project. During this period we will burn approximately 1000 MWh (the average villa has a heat consumption of 20-25 MWh per year). During the period 2011-2012 we will reach the maximum production of 10 000 MWh.  An evaluation will then take place to examine if we in addition to an environmental gain can also make a financial profit.  The project aims to be a win-win project where all partners benefit from the cooperation.
